The most important thing to remember when you start up any blog is that is was designed to be a web log and that is still how people want to use it. It’s so easy with the ideas of blogs and websites being so close together to forget that this is supposed to be almost a reflection of yourself on the page. This is what people are going to be coming back for. If you have something useful to say that is all well and good people will come to read it but the thing they will keep coming back for is that ‘x factor’. Forgive me for using that phrase but people aren’t going to enjoy reading a robots opinion on something they are going to want to see your style and your flair and if they like it they will come back. The thing with blogs is even if they don’t like it or have a massive aversion to it they are going to tell someone else online how much they hated your blog or they’re going to comment and so long as it isn’t to offensive its going to get people’s tongue’s wagging (metaphorically speaking).
Another thing to think of when blogging is that unless you are in a specific niche which is technology or news based there is a high probability that your topic has already been mentioned somewhere else online. This massive online machine that we have created will do that so putting a bit of personality in your posts is essential. When you are writing about something that has been written about already though there are a few things you can do. Now this will only work for slightly more advanced blogs but if you can try and link posts into other posts you have written about the same topic. This keeps people surfing your blog and also hopefully gives the reader more information that they want to know. For example i am going to link to a post i did a couple of weeks ago about the best ways to monetize your blog here. This post is relevant to what is being talked about in this post and will hopefully allow you to continue your learning about blogging to make money. You should obviously be more subtle with this but for the purposes of this post i’ve done it that way.
The whole thing about the blogging community is communication, people getting their ideas across to other people who share those ideas directly or in their own words. The best thing at the moment on the internet is to get people to share your ideas directly such as digging a post or tweeting it or subscribing etc. because this is what you want people to do why not ask them to do it? I know it may sound a little rude or presumptuous to ask someone to talk about something you’ve written but really whats the harm in having a small plug at the end of a post something like ‘and if you enjoyed reading this post please subscribe to my feed. Thanks for reading’ The reader isn’t going to be put off by this and is going to be more likely to subscribe.
Finally and most importantly remember that quality content is the most important thing in blogging. If you don’t have original well written content you aren’t going to get many visitors. Thanks for reading and if you enjoyed reading this post please subscribe to my feed ( notice the slight variation, don’t so the same every time!)
